Fake Brand..!!!

Posted on 04. May, 2010 by drkkr in BRANDING

Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Chanel, Rado, Montblanc, Prada, Armani, Rolex……….. It is a dream to earn and own these.  All these are millionaires label, but when you are a Globetrotter, you see how these brands just create an awe across, countries, cultures, Continents.  All of us love owning labels.  Don’t we!!

Luxury brands are part of a new social protocol where your identity and self worth are determined by the visible brands on your body.

Japanese consumers are the world leaders with their obsession on Luxury brands and they contribute over 40 percent on world sales of Luxury brands.   Luxury brands are a US $ 80 billion global industry.  Asians are passionate and big spenders towards Luxury brands.

Voice your thoughts!!

But interestingly I recently bumped on these brands at an unbelievable price……… Folks, there was no sales promotions, it was by pure bargaining you get these brands at throw away prices.  It seems to be identical and genuine but to my surprise that genuine fake is thriving so very well.  I was told South Korea fakes it very well.  When I researched on the genuine fakes I was surprised to know that it is worth US $ 540 billion globally.  Lot of them buy LV and Rolex, Montblanc and it seems a tough battle for the genuine luxury brands.  Those who can’t afford the original will go for the fake!!  I have two questions,

  1. How does the genuine luxury brand deal with the genuine fake Industry ?
  2. Is it a crime to buy fake goods!!

On reading about the fake brand industry, I certainely got reminded of one of Russel Peter’s shows where he talks about how a chinese would click pictures of the products during his visit to one of these brand selling stores and he could send it over back at his place to get it cloned. Hahaha.. hillarious. But if we actually come to look at it, I do not know about how well these fake brand industries thrive in western countries. I guess people there believe in spending on these brands, a genuine brand rather, In India, yes! No matter how well we adapt the concept of westernization, We will still remain the customers who are looking for full utility on the price we pay and these pricey brands do not cater this feature. Owing to a majority of Indians who are middle class, and also the higher middle class, they would’nt believe in payin such an exhorbitant price. Even some of the rich for that matter ( leaving the celebs and other elite class of people) Honestly speaking, If I can get hold of a product that is so well faked at an affordable price, I would kill for it! :) I do not think that would constitute a committing of a crime. But talking about how these brands could deal with the fakers is really a million dollar question!

I believe d fake industry has penetrate vast mrk!!! wit my own experience on PUMA brand footwear when i was wearing and my friends making fun tat when they saw they same type in fashion street for just 150 bucks!!!!! that realy annoys anybody!! no matter what we do, as long as there is a demand, there is always going to be a supply. If it was a crime den there ll not be any fashion street or linkin road in mumbai which is said to be huge retail market!!!!!! and for the country like India where the middle class rate is high, luxury goods are not affordable!!! that is one important constraint. I would like someone to comment on this!!!

No it is not a crime in buying fake products, I don’t see any harm because people who cannot afford in buying the originals atleast can say I have this brand but it might be fake one but the end point is when somebody asks you what brand is it they say only GUCCI or Rolex. Even I had come across a fake Breitling watch which I had bought for Rs.600 which looks like Breitling. When somebody asks me I used to say it was Breitling but though people knew it was fake because the next question is the price and they can figure it out easily but still Breitling gets known to people. Though it is fake we say the brand name and don’t say it is duplicate for the first time. The brand becomes famous amongst people and they come to know about it.
They can be proud enough that I have this brand that brand. Ya the other point the man who is creating the originals won’t be sold due to the market penetration and thus has to re strategize himself accordingly.

In fact in some cases the duplicate or the fake brands survive long than the originals. People see the costing part like spending thousands and lakhs for Mont Blanc pen which is diamond embedded and gold plated and getting the duplicate pen in the same brand does not make a difference because the ultimate result is that he is going to use it for writing. If I was supposed to buy a Mont Blanc I would have kept in the showcase but I would feel proud that I have a Mont Blanc but if the nib goes or any reason like losing it though it might be due to carelessness it is not only me people will be repenting for it due to the price but the same the fake one goes don’t worry we can get another one.

Now there is no long life for any product either exchange programs happens or use and throw concept has entered in the minds of people.

So I would not say its a crime to buy fake brands.

Brand nahi to Style nahi but still there are millions of brands surviving in the market.
