Form is Temporary Class is Permanent

Watching IPL Over the years I was wondering if cricket has got any different. We have been hearing for quite some time with the Indian cricket/ers are aging and infusing young blood into the team would be the better for the future of Indian Cricket. But at hindsight if you would see barring a few teams most of the performers of the IPL are well beyond their 34 and it’s a stark contradiction that the shortest form the game is more suited for the young ones. Most of the team captains of the IPL teams are also in suit of the same age category we are addressing. The legends of the game like Sachin, Ganguly, Rahul Dravid,Glichrist, Shewag, Vettori name them they have all been beyond the age that the game is vouching for. So now is that the media that catches them when they go on for the national list or is it the hype that the advertisers and sponsors create to make the game attractive to younger audience .

Yes the gentlemen’s game never had dugouts, strategic time outs, songs at loud pitches, free hits, and cheerleaders and not to miss out colorful team owners. As the promoters of the game say it is “cricktainment”-Yes the game has changed cosmetically to suit the TV audience and the paying gallery, but inspite of all this when u get in to the 22yards you only see the prolific run scorers who have played the game at the highest level for the nation doing good. I don’t want to weigh down the mighty young guns who have performed but I would also like to add that the erstwhile players who have done the country proud do shine in blistering colors. It is a sight to behold when a Dravid or Ganguly hits a six, yes even an Irfan pathan or Kevin cooper does the same, but the former exudes class and the latter energy. Sachin or Kalli’s hitting a straight drive and Rahane or Raina doing it the result might be the same but the execution differs. I have the opinion that the best critics of the game would agree that form is temporary but class is permanent. At an age when it is best suited to be commenting about the game or administering it a Ganguly, Dravid, Sachin, Glichrist compete with the raw and young guns that the tournament is held to promote is a sight to watch.

The magic of IPL does not lie in the color it throws upon by fostering young power but it is opportunity to keep our old time tested players to be revered,  and of how well they have played the game and how it lets them compete even on this format of the game. ..And to remind why I titled the blog the way its done is because- cricket is a game where you take time to accustom to the pitch, to its pace, the strategy, the field set and the skill of a bowler and then let your  feet move to caress the ball which made bowlers like Michael Holding, Malcom Marshall, Ambrose, Akram, dread with fear. But in the shorter format of the game even they would be finding balls flying all around the gallery… you know why? cos in the T20 format, cricket is more or less a game that is played with the eye and not with the feet… for playing with your eye in its just the form you require and to play with your feet you need class.  Yes IPL for media is number of eye ball rolling and for the players getting their eye quick in.. A game suited for the eyes played by eyes and not by the feet. Share your thoughts…!
