Live Your Own Life: A Letter to My Students Across Time
Dear Students — past, present, and future,
I want to share something that’s been on my mind. It’s not a motivational quote. It’s not a classroom lesson. It’s life.
Don’t live vicariously.
Not through athletes, movie stars, billionaires, influencers, or that guy on YouTube with a million subscribers. They don’t care about you. And that’s okay — they’re busy living their lives. The question is: are you living yours?
You see, one of the greatest tragedies of our time isn’t failure. It’s distraction.
The average teenager today spends 55+ hours a week glued to a screen — not learning, not creating, not even thinking. Just scrolling. Clicking. Consuming.
This isn’t just an “American problem.” It’s a global epidemic. And it’s robbing people of their most valuable currency: time.
Let me ask you this:
📌 Before you do anything, ask —
“Is this going to help me make a positive difference?”
If the answer is yes — go all in.
If the answer is no — pause and ask,
“Then why am I doing this?”
Because every hour you spend watching someone else live, is an hour you’re not building your own story.
And let me tell you this as your teacher, your mentor, and someone who believes in you deeply:
You are not here to be a spectator in life.
You are here to participate. To create. To lead. To stumble. To rise. To impact.
The world doesn’t need more fans.
It needs builders, thinkers, doers, makers, and changers.
It needs you.
So the next time you catch yourself doomscrolling, comparing, or binge-watching someone else’s highlight reel — stop.
Look around.
Start with one small thing that’s yours.
A project.
A workout.
A book.
A journal entry.
A conversation.
A risk.
Live a life worth watching — not one wasted watching others.
You’re the main character here. Don’t outsource your story.
With purpose and belief,
– Dr. KKR
