10SMS Adverts – A Pain
I am sure all of us would have faced a similar situation. Let us jog down on our memory lane to know how we react on a situation like this : We might be driving or busy working or spending quality time with our family or studying or playing..(since of late mobile phones have become integrated part of our lives), when you get a message for an sms ads offering the latest in real estate or promising to reduce power bills or the size of your waist or up to 50% discount on merchandise, shoes or for music download or for online jobs to fortune teller or for some contest. As of now we have no other option than to hitting the delete button on your mobile phone. Tel com regulatory Authority (TRAI) and the department of Telecommunication (DOT) is letting illegal advertisers trespass into consumers mobile phones at will. I think most of us are fed up with these kinds of sms ads. Trai also set up a National Do Not call Registry (NDNCR) in 2007, allowing mobile phone users to request that their numbers be made unobtainable to telemarketeers . The NDNCR scrubs out all the numbers with a do not disturb request from the telemarketeers database. This means some 26000 registered telemarketers in India should be able to make calls or send sms only to those that remain on their database. Lack of knowingness can be sorted out in no time.
WHAT WE CAN DO :
• Register at NDNCR ( www.ndncregistry.gov.in) or START DND and send it to 1909.
• Your Do Not Call service will get activated within 45 days . If you still recieve a call or a message ,complain to your service provider giving the details of the call or SMS.
• The SMS is either a 10- digit number of an alphanumeric, which indicates the address of the source. For instance, in an SMS with XYABC as the senders name,X indicates the service provider, Y indicates the service area and ABC indicates the company advertising .
• The service provider has upto 35 days to take action and get back to you. The service provider can penalize these telemarketeers by increasing the tarrif or through disconnection.(courtesy : MINT)
I guess this is the way we can avoid sms adverts, but all of us are fond of texts and i guess it has become a hobby for most of us but sms advert is for sure an irritant.
That is Superb. Wonderful, Informative hey i am going to register. Great blog ! Good thoughts and have presented well. why don’t you write about search marketing.
But in this case I think this topic is rather complicated for a beginner:)
A very useful information,to get some relief………
Good one ! I never knew i can cut the junk n crap which comes to my mobile.I guess lot more awareness should be given about this. On a normal day 10 sms advert every one gets in their mobile.
Superb !! I was once out of class, for not keeping the phone in silent mode and it was these advertisers who called. At least, now i can take revenge. 🙂
Thanks for this very informative one…
NDNCR has not been effective as expected.. TRAI has been evaluating on creating a new list which is similar to OPTIN list where only those in the OPTIN list can be targeted for unsolicited telemarketing calls / messages.
* Airtel users : SMS “START DND”, send to 121
* BPL users: send NDNC as an SMS to 50800 (for postpaid) or 50505 (for prepaid)
* Hutch users: SMS ACT DND to 111
* Spice users: SMS the keyword BLOCK to 363
