Bollywood is the largest film producer of our country, and one of the largest film fraternity of the world. The influence of Bollywood is unbelievable not just in India but across the globe. This industry has a significant influence on the people. Can you imagine this country without Bollywood songs and movies.Undoubtedly movies are a great source of entertainment. But of late the promotion for a movie seems to be a big time entertainment. Movie business have started moving into an interesting space. Today, it is into high voltage promotion (Gone are the days, poster, print Ads, Reviews were the only form to promote movies).
I was closely following the sensational promotions carried out by 3 Idiots.( Hello, I am not here to blog on the movie review or about the controversy! Just read on..) It was indeed a great marketing tactics. I liked the marketing ploy used to promote the movie.
PROMO: stunning visuals, elegant music, humor was packed in different promos. All these promos were launched by three people associated with the movies. The media conference was radiated in seven countries
MUSIC LAUNCH: It was a very unusual audio launch on idiotsacademy.com. all those who visit the site on the day of the plunge had an opportunity to chat with the stars showcased there.
OUTDOOR CAMPAIGN: 3 Idiots turned out to be every where, yes the hording , bus shelters, buses, mobile van, auto, cutouts, platform sign ages.
SOCIAL MARKTEING: They left no space, on face book a profile called “Pucca Idiot” was created which has more than two lakh fans.
INTERACTIVE MARKETING: 3 Idiots Chairs(like hips) were placed in the lounge area of multiplexes. The washroom walls had a message “ you are the fourth” idiot.
GAMING: As part of the promotional campaign, Amir travels across the country in disguise giving out the clues about where he is . Anyone locates him spends the new year ever with him. Zapak the online portal created an alternate reality game on idiotsacademy.com
Amirkhan disguised himself as an old man went to Varanasi to locate the house of his mother. Next he visited the chanderi sarees in Madhyapradesh. Amirkhan created a tremor at Kolkata by visiting Saurav, later he visited Gujurat and Tamilnadu. This move caught the attention of the media and fans.
Three Idiot marketing tactics were creative, interactive and for sure created a wave and I am not sure if the tiff between Chetan Bhagat and the 3 Idiots crew was a ploy or a reality show ! is yet to be discovered. But for sure that reality show also worked in favor of both the movie and the book, because both got its attention. Movie business today need a wonderful packaging like 3 Idiots.
